A UV lamp marking is an identification lead, not a complete electrical or mechanical specification. It can help connect the lamp to an equipment family, an output type, or a manufacturer's catalog. However, similar-looking numbers can refer to different parts, and the meaning of a suffix is not universal across manufacturers.
The safest starting point for a replacement inquiry is a record of the complete marking, together with the system and controller identification. Copy the whole marking
Record every letter, digit, separator, and suffix you can read. Include markings on the lamp body, base, packaging, and equipment label. If one character is uncertain, say so explicitly and send a close photograph. A guessed character can direct the search toward a different lamp family.
Do not discard suffixes because the main number matches. For example, VIQUA lists the replacement reference S410RL-HO. The complete identifier is more useful than an abbreviated S410 marking when asking for the associated lamp. That example identifies a catalog reference; it does not establish that any lamp with a similar number is an approved substitute.
Identify the equipment as well as the lamp
Record the system manufacturer, exact model, serial or revision information where relevant, and the controller or ballast label. Equipment variants may use different lamps or electrical arrangements despite similar housings. A photograph showing the full equipment label is often more useful than a description such as standard residential system.
Keep the lamp and sleeve references separate. A sleeve number identifies a different component and may not encode the lamp's electrical characteristics. When ordering both parts, list both requirements explicitly. The same applies to a connector, seal, or retaining assembly supplied alongside the lamp.
Describe the connector and dimensions
Photograph the base straight on and from the side. Record the pin arrangement, number of pins, connector keying, and any lead or harness attached to the lamp. Do not assume that matching pin count means matching wiring, starting method, or electrical compatibility.
For length, identify the reference points: overall lamp length, base-to-base length, and arc length describe different things. Include the original catalog terminology if it is available. A measurement taken between the glass ends should not be relabeled as overall length when the bases or pins extend beyond those points.
Keep electrical information connected to its source
If the lamp or controller label specifies power, current, voltage, frequency, or starting information, copy the label rather than combining values from unrelated listings. Identify whether a power figure belongs to the lamp, ballast, or complete system. These values are not interchangeable descriptions of one component.
A lamp may physically fit and still be the wrong electrical match. Replacement review should establish the lamp and ballast combination, the required operating characteristics, and the relevant equipment instructions. Do not energize an unverified lamp merely to see whether it lights; visible operation does not establish correct UV output or system performance.
Use search results to narrow the inquiry
A parts finder can bring together likely references and known dimensions. It is useful for identifying what to ask about, particularly when the original documentation is incomplete. A search match should still be checked against the full lamp marking and system information before a replacement is ordered.
If the marking cannot be recovered, send the equipment model, connector photographs, dimensions, and any service records available. Explain whether the original lamp is intact or broken. Avoid mixing photographs from several installations in one request without labeling which component belongs to which system.
