Define the finished requirement.

A quartz component may fit by its outside diameter, a ground face, a locating shoulder, or the position of a drilled feature. Those interfaces need clear dimensions and references. Glass Automated Products reviews machining and finishing requirements with the mating assembly in mind. Mark the functional surfaces, define datums, and separate critical requirements from dimensions that can carry a more general tolerance.

Our core in-house work includes grinding and finishing. We also quote specialized machining and optical finishing through the fabrication and supply route appropriate to the component. Requests can include holes, slots, chamfers, bevels, lapped surfaces, polished features, and threaded or ground ends. A drawing of the complete geometry is more useful than a list of operations because it shows access, edge distances, wall sections, and how the features relate.

For holes and slots, identify size, location, through-depth, and acceptable edge condition. For a face, state whether flatness, parallelism, roughness, or optical quality controls its function. Those requirements are not interchangeable. Tell us if the part will contact a seal, carry an optical path, enter a clean process, or face thermal cycling. We can discuss manufacturability before the design is fixed and confirm the proposed method and inspection with the quote.

Questions before you order

Can you quote from a CAD file?

Yes. Include a dimensioned drawing or notes identifying critical tolerances and the current revision. Geometry alone does not communicate every acceptance requirement.

Are all machining processes performed in-house?

Core grinding and finishing are in-house. Specialized requirements are reviewed for the appropriate fabrication, finishing, or partner supply route.

Can you advise on a difficult feature?

Yes. Describe what the feature does and which dimensions have flexibility so we can discuss a practical manufacturing approach.

Is a smooth face necessarily an optical surface?

No. Optical surfaces require their own stated specifications. Appearance alone does not establish flatness or optical performance.

Can a prototype use the production specification?

Yes. Tie the prototype to a controlled revision, then record any accepted changes before repeat orders.
