An edge affects handling, assembly, and the way a part meets a seal or holder. Fire-polishing uses heat to finish an appropriate quartz surface after fabrication. Glass Automated Products includes fire-polishing in its in-house process and reviews the edge requirement alongside the finished dimensions. Tell us which surfaces require treatment and which dimensions must remain controlled after that operation.
A polished-looking edge is not a complete specification. Describe the contact surface, the desired edge break, and any allowable change in the local profile. If a thin wall, narrow opening, or close-fitting interface is involved, show it in section. Where a controlled flat face, optical surface, or precise ground geometry is required, discuss that finish explicitly so the process matches the function.
We can combine fire-polishing with cut-to-length work, domed ends, grinding and finishing, cleaning, and packaging. For a repeat part, use the same drawing revision and describe the accepted edge condition in a way that can be inspected. A prototype is a useful opportunity to settle those details before a production release. We review specialized flame-working, sealing, and annealing requests as part of the complete fabrication plan rather than assuming every component needs the same treatment.

Is fire-polishing an optical polish?
It should not be assumed to meet an optical surface specification. Provide any optical finish, flatness, or surface-quality requirement for separate review.
Can finishing change a dimension?
Local geometry can be affected by finishing. Identify critical dimensions so the fabrication sequence and inspection address the final condition.
Can you finish a part already made?
Send its material, dimensions, condition, and required result. We will review whether the proposed operation is suitable before accepting the work.
Do all ends need the same finish?
No. Mark the requirement at each end or feature, particularly where one end seals and another serves a different function.
